Papua New Guinea is a young developing democratic nation. The legal regime allows for us to enjoy our rights, freedom and protection of the law. Law and order issues have been a concern to many people. Law and order problems exist where people do not follow the law or decisions of people in authority, disrespect other's right and freedoms and the rule of law break down.
Informing our people about their rights, freedoms and duties, court processes, land mediation processes and the need to obey the law is important to our society as it will help reduce law and order problems. This book explains our rights, freedoms, court processes and other basic areas of the law which we need to understand to appreciate our relations and interaction with others in our societies.
Lack of proper awareness of basic aspects of law has left us in a position to guess what our rights and freedoms are or what we can do or cannot do under the law. This book has breached this barrier and provides a useful information source for basic knowledge of the law. It should therefore be a useful book for school children, teachers, village court officials, youth, church, women and sports groups, police officers, correctional officers and anyone who is able to read. It should be a resource material for everyone.
