This Bilum Books Phonics for PNG, Elementary Prep Teacher Guide program is written specifically for Papua New Guinea. It is intended to support the Phonics Standard in the New Standards-Based English Syllabus for Elementary Schools in PNG.
At each level, sounds are introduced in the same order as the Standards-Based English Teacher Guides for Elementary Prep, Elementary 1 and Elementary 2. The aim is to provide extra support for students and teachers that will help to reinforce and consolidate what is taught in the classroom.

The terms and weeks follow the Department of Education Standards-Based English Teacher Guides. Chants, rhymes, worksheets, picture cards, and extra teaching ideas in each Teacher Guide consolidate learning and reduce the planning workload for teachers.
Phonics is about the sounds that letters make. To become good readers, students must know the sounds that each letter or group of letters can represent. Students who do not understand the relationship between letters and sounds are disadvantaged.
