Papua New Guinea History Through Stories: Book 2 follows in the style of Book 1, with previously little-known stories of Papua New Guinea's past. Students are introduced to people such as Mutuaga, who carved his masterpieces around 100 years ago; Josephine Abaijah, Nahau Rooney and other famous women of parliament; Michael Somare, Albert Maori Kiki and other men who became known as the political founders of Papua New Guine; William Metpi, the highly decorated World War II hero; and many others. Students will also learn about events such as the ill-fated 1904 uprising against the colonial Germans by the people of Astrolabe Bay; the Wahgi Valley people's first contact, in 1933, with the outside world; the deployment overseas of New Guinea policemen in the early 1900s; and the 1978 signing of the Torres Strait border agreement between Papua New Guinea and Australia.
Students will enjoy reading these well-illustrated stories and, by completing the carefully constructed exercises, will at the same time learn a lot about the history of Papua New Guinea.
