The Muruk Chicks book is about 2 children during one school holiday morning. This book also talks about cassowaries.
Cassowary is "Muruk" in Tok Pisin. The three species of cassowary are Southern Cassowary or Double-wattled Cassowary, Northern Cassowary or Single-wattled Cassowary and the Dwarf Cassowary or Bennett's Cassowary. All three species of cassowaries are in Papua New Guinea.
Cassowaries have tiny wings that are not flight feathers, so they cannot fly. The tiny wings fold under the bird's body to protect its flanks. They have black coarse feathers (plumes) that consist of a shaft and loose individual small feathers (barbules) that join together. They do not have tail feathers (rectrices) or an oil (preen) gland.
